Our guide and driver will pick you up from the hotel in the morning for the 1.5-hour drive along the Ayeyarwaddy River to Salay, stopping by the Chauk provincial markets on the way to browse souvenirs and see a piece of local culture. A half hour later, arrive at Yokesone Monastery in Salay, located on the banks of the river. Known for its wood carvings that date back to 1882, the monastery is in the hometown of writer U Pone Nya, who lived in the 1800s during the time of Burmese kings. You'll visit his heritage museum to learn about his works. Lunch at a local restaurant. Visit the Taungkalat Shrine, believed to be home to 37 spirit entities, statues of which can be found at the base. To reach the top, take off your shoes and socks and head up the 777 steps, perhaps passing by monkeys on the way. After Mt. Popa we will take you back to your hotel in Bagan. If we got time to enjoy sunset, we will take you to sunset temple. After sunset we will take you back to your hotel.
